Steven C. Kelly was born in Portland on Sept. 14, 1951 to Dr. Donald and Margaret Kelly. He passed away shortly before Christmas 2011. He is survived by siblings Mark, Diane, Carol, Rick, Susan, and Heather. He also has a daughter, Misty; and two grandsons. He attended St. Therese grade school and graduated from Park Rose H.S. in 1969.

Steve lived most of his life in the Portland area, although he traveled from Seattle to San Diego for work. He was employed as a welder and shipfitter by Northwest Marine, Southwest Marine, and San Francisco Drydock as well as many others. He was proud to be a union worker and was a member of Boilermakers Lodge 72 before joining Boilermakers Local 500. He was also a staunch supporter of the Democratic Party and made several campaign donations.

Steve enjoyed a laid back lifestyle. He was an avid reader, particularly of Robert Jordan books, and had subscriptions to National Geographic, Biblical Archaeology, and Newsweek magazines. He liked to sip Bushmills whiskey and linger over a steak at Country Bill's restaurant. Steve was a lifetime member of the History Channel Club and had a wealth of knowledge on historical subjects from wars to aviation. He was especially fond of the space shuttle program and was looking forward to a spring trip to Virginia to see the shuttle Discovery.

Steve was known for his sense of humor and ready smile. He liked helping others and spent many a day doing little projects at his sister's house. He donated to the Salvation Army, Portland Rescue Mission, St. Joseph's School, and the National Wildlife Federation. He kept a supply of birdseed and peanuts for feeding the wildlife outside his apartment window. He also enjoyed riding his bicycle and was broadening his mind through a correspondence course on world religions. Steve was a bright light in the world and will be sorely missed.
